Open Mic Readme : Etiquette

  • These open mics are not paid gigs. Some venues do provide certain perks for performers such as food discounts etc. Do check with the organizers for more information.

  • Open mic venues’ setups may differ. Some may be more suitable for full bands while others cater to acoustic; do check with the organizers for more information.

  • Song choices are not tightly regulated but generally, vulgarities are not allowed. Do check with organizers for more information. **Original songs are welcome too!

  • Like any F&B establishment, basic rules such as ‘no outside food’ and ‘do not take up seats if you are not a customer’ applies. Strict/Lax enforcement of such rules is up to the establishment’s discretion.

  • There are limited number of slots for any venue. If the open mic is fully booked, you will have to wait for your turn. Do check with the organizers for details.

  • Support the venue if you can as it is a two-way relationship. We help them keep the doors open and they let us do open mics.

  • There are many ways you can support (we understand the $$$ issue). One way is to share the bill with a group of friends etc.

  • The open mics aren’t just limited to performers as well. Whether you’re there to gain experience or make new friends or just to listen to our diverse local talents, you’re all welcome!

  • Last but not least, support our fellow musicians!! If you can, try to stay a little longer after your set / turn up earlier just to listen.

Thank you for reading! A little mutual respect goes a long way to preserving longevity of local open mic venues.
